I just moved into a condo and the old (very old) washer dryer in the closet is on its last leg. Its an old Frigidaire stackable that vents right into the closet. I can't believe people do that. I've been doing some research and decided I’m going to need a ventless dryer to keep my sanity because sending all that moisture into the house is stupid.. Even though I've spent hours searching the web I can't find good info or really good product guides. I want a stackable washer dryer, with the dryer being ventless. Plus my door opening is only 25 inches : ( Does anyone know of this type of stackable? If worse comes to worse, I guess I’ll have to go with the washer and dryer in one combined machine.

FYI for those who say there "aint' no such thang", read up on technology. ventless dryers (or condenser dryers, as they are sometimes called) may use water to condense the moisture from the air or exchangers that use cool air from the room to absorb the heat. This means that hot (but dry) air is discharged into the room; the condensed water drains away just as it does in the combination units.

The only picture in my mind is of a washer with a package of clothesline sitting on top of it. I have heard of the concept before, but it is both dangerous, depending on the size of the living area, and a highly efficient way to spread dust through the area as well as wood warping and mold inducing moisture. I think the only way I'd consider it would be if my dryer was in the garage.

Wow, you have sure asked a hard question. I have NEVER heard of any dryer that is not vented. How far is it to the nearest window? You could buy a long vent hose, they come in long lengths, and everytime you use it vent it thru a window. Is the placement near an outside wall? Perhaps you could have a professional make an opening. I would think it would be dangerous to have a NON vent dryer. Contact Sears or a company that specializes in appliances. Just look in the yellow pages. Be careful.

aint no such thang as a ventless dryer,they have to vent the heat or it will build and cause a failure. you either have to make that puppy the most efficient skinny minny around or use a non vented lent catching bucket. now that works good in winter but not good in summer.Best to go throgh it and clean out all the lint thats built up throughout the years and then to only use the perma press cycle...my friend down the street lives in a condo on dog river on the 3rd floor and last week we fixed it with a new high limit and I told her to get a lint catching bucket because it was getting way too hot(she did not),now like I told her if that did not work,we gonna have ta bite the bullet and break down the stack dryer and blow it out..by the way her condo management peeps said they aint no longer gonna be responsible fer vented pipes in the condos..go figure dat one...LOL

Frigidaire and GE still make the stackable. Hardware stores sell an attachment which will attach to the dryer to make it ventless.
