If you have a good air filter your tank should be getting enough oxygen with the filtration, however a lot of people like to add an air stone, both for the added oxygenation of the water and because it's just fun to have the look of the little bubbles rising up in the tank water. Many fish seem to like "surfing" on the bubbles from the airstone as well. Airstones are very cheap and most petstores will have small ones for under a dollar each. You can run one from the same air pump that runs your filter just by adding a two-way valve and an extra bit of air hose. Bubble wands (to make a wall of bubbles) and aerating aquarium ornaments also disperse bubbles through the water to help oxygenate the water, but they cost more and don't really add anything more to help the fish, they just look cooler.

Dissolved oxygen, what fish breath, can only enter into the water by movement of water against air. Airstones do nothing to add dissolved oxygen to the tank. They just blow bubbles and look neat.

Waterfalls, wind, filters, powerheads, waves fountains etc are the only way to add dissolved oxygen to the tank. Water changes as well add dissolved oxygen.

Even so much as dropping your tank water level by 1/2 inch will allow your filter to dump water into your tank adding lots of new dissolved oxygen.

A 20L is a very tiny tank, and the nice and comfortable clean out won't have accomplished the nitrogen cycle as this is all form new - so the cloudy water (now no longer the eco-friendly algae even with the incontrovertible fact that) could be bacteria that may usually stay in a cycled clean out. do you recognize what species of "algae eater" you have? That little call could perhaps be utilized to ANY species of fish with an underslung suckermouth - certainly thousands of species which get something from a million" to over 24", a lot of that are extensive waste manufacturers and a few of which do now no longer even eat algae (and could eat Guppies)! you should desire to substantiate precisely what species of fish you have. you would be greater suitable suitable off with a minimum of a 70-80L tank suitable now, and learn cycling a tank with fish. the eco-friendly water must be the effect of over stocked/over feeding and/or too plenty delicate. Algae feeds on greater food indoors the water. those wall fixed tanks are rather bit a fad and one so tiny is very greater suitable suitable off with some slender stay plant life and a pair of dwarf shrimp, like Ghosts or Cherries, this is comparatively too small for fish! EDIT: That grew to grow to be into the fish i replaced into hoping you probable did now no longer have. that's likewise oftentimes occurring through certainty the chinese language Algae Eater, it gets approximately 8"-10" and as right now as over 4" it is going to eat your Guppies. They turn predatory and are not suitable for community set ups, they're fairly nasty fish that would desire to now no longer probable be indoors the doggy commerce!

oxygen in the water is all about surface movement. The more your surface moves, the more oxygen in the water. If you have a side mound filter that is dropping water in the tank you are good to go. If you have an undergravel filter and want to aid the oxygen, you can put a power head on top of one of your upspouts. this will circulate the water more quickly.

The best way is to go to any pet store or your local walmart and buy and air pump then if it does not come with it buy the hose to fit it and a bubble stone that plugs into the hose and this can dramatically help the life of your fish.

do a partial water change -- like 20% -- if you just don't have time or are super lazy fill your blender with some aquarium water and push the button.
