Semi floatation axles use only one bearing out at the end of the rear end housing. Either in the housing or pressed onto the axle itself.
Full floating axles use an inner and outer wheel bearing in the wheel hub. The axles can be removed from this type with out removing the wheels. This axle is used to carry much more weight then the semi floatation axle and is used on all trucks rated over one ton. Big rigs use full floating axles.
They can be found on 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive pickups in the 250 class and larger.
