yes, that's why they offer it as a class in 9th grade at my school. What my friend did becuase her family didn't have enough money was she spent the time and got the license and insurance, then didn't drive for a year. Now her rates are so low its unbelieveable.she would rather have not driven for a year then not driving at all so explain that to your mother. you should be given that option. also you should drive becuase then he/she can run all of your errands, drive themselves/siblings to school and the parent doesn't have to deal w/ it. explain that and mabye work out a contract with your mom, like once you can drive you promise to always be home by 6...just make some sort of compromise.

In my home state you have to be 14 to get a permit. I started driving at 14 with a licensed adult driver in the car, then at 15 I got my hardship where I was allowed to drive by myself but only to school and basketball practice and back. I had to be at practice and my parents both worked and my sister worked so I had no way to school or to practice which is why I applied for the hardship. So technically I have been driving for 10 years now. I think it is good for kids to get their permits at 14, b/c if I hadn't of gotten a hardship I would of had to wait until I was 16 to drive by myself. That is 2 years of driving experience. However, I do feel every teenager should have to take drivers ed, sometime in their early career of driving.

That's usually when they start, 15/16. I don't see why not.
I don't know where you peoplelive, but in Nevada and New Mexico, teens can get their permit at 15 as long as they took the drivers ed class, with a permit they can ONLY drive in the car with a licensed guardian. THen after the permit, at 16 they get a provisional which lets them have as many family members in the car, and one friend. If you think you're child is not responsible enough to drive, then don't enroll them in the class.

Well, yeah. That's why 15 is the legal age to get a permit. Driving is helpful for teens to get to and from school and work. Driving School covers everything, a 15 year old could handle it just fine, or Driving School wouldn't be offered until teens are older. Remember, they HAVE TO PASS in order to get their permits. If they don't know jack, they don't pass.

Well its not a bad idea but from what I know driving schools only accept teens with a driver's permit and at least 16 years of age with parental consent. But its ok to start with the basics if like your dad teaches you to drive around the block or basic road signs.

Yes, it's a good idea. The younger you teach them, the less mistakes they will make. But i don't think they should go to a driving school, learning from a parent, older sibling, or any responsible adult in the family is way better. I learned to drive when i was like 11.

Driving school is better than being home schooled. My sister was home schooled and I went to driving school and it's like night and day. The only time I've been in an accident was when I was 17 and it was a fender bender. Granted, I started school when I was 16 but if the alternative is being home schooled, let her do it.

Whats wrong with good old walking, or train or bus. That's how we got to school. With the price of petrol today, it would become very expencive for a 15 year old who either does not work or has a part time job.
