OK, I don't believe these question are worth paying $200 dollars, so any PROFESSIONAL advice before turning to that would be greatly appreciated.

1. Is comp. memory editing illegal? If the user runs a tool that lets them cheat in a game, I'm not talking about editing a client (which is against the DMCA), but simply editing the values stored in the RAM drive that is cleared after your computer is restarted/program is closed, is that against US law? According to my knowledge it is not, but according to this companies AUP it is, so they are pressing legal action.

2. If I was given a lawsuit ID (I06111721*******), where would be appropriate site or person to call to look up?

3. And what specifically makes a "Civil" Lawsuit what it is? And what grounds can it be filed under?

4. Is a counter-suit possible if a company shutdown a site under the assumption that memory editing was illegal which turned out to be false?

5. Wouldn't a cease and desist be first if it was illegal?

Thank you.

open4one... Wouldn't that lead to termination of contract, E.G., banning, and not filing of a lawsuit?

Oh also, it's not a lawsuit ID, it's a complaint ID, so it could be for anything, but judging by the length of it, any suggestions?

1. It isn't illegal in terms of a game, but it could well be a violation of the contract with the game's real "owner". Understand that when you buy software or play on the internet, you don't buy "the game", you buy a LICENSE, which is permission to play it, and it comes with conditions.

2. You want to know the court it was filed in. Call them and give them the numbers.

3. This question would take three years to answer. I want the $200 up front before I even start.

4. The company is under no obligation to keep operating, even if they don't have a reason besides they don't want to buy a new server because the one they were using to support the game went down.

5. Again, we're talking a contract violation, so no. If they think you were in default of the contract, they can resort to the remedies in the contract, which surely include cutting off service.

edit: Breach of Contract is grounds for a lawsuit. Violation of a License Agreement pretty much amounts to the same thing as breach of contract. I'm not sure which you had, but it doesn't matter much. They can sue if they don't like the "self help" option of shutting off your access. A Cease and Desist isn't usually done when there's already a contractual relationship; it makes no sense, because it would mean they'd be asking for you to stop breaking the contract, when it's simpler just to sue you.

Oh, and a "Complaint" is the first document filed in a lawsuit. The Plaintiff files a Complaint, the Defendant has X days to Answer, and if they don't, Plaintiff wins.
