Dead battery?

The release solenoid for the shifter is controlled by the brake light switch and is 12 volt.
If your battery is dead, you will not be able to take it out of "Park"

If you mean on by the engine running the brake switch relays operate these functions and is probably out of adjustment , if your not familiar with this task you may need to get someone that is familiar with it. sometimes they malfunction if they become wet or damp. first off make sure you have proper power coming to solenoid, as low voltage will also render it inoperative.
