My first advice is to find actual punk bands, not the stuff you think is punk (not to be a smarta$$)
Start with the original and work your way up
the Clash
The Ramones
The Sex Pistols
Then work you way into 80s hardcore
Dead Kennedys
Minor Threat
SS Decontrol
The Exploited
Black Flag
GBH
Social Distortion ( not really a hardcore band, but still great)
Then go with the 90s
Operation Ivy
Rancid
The Casualties
Dropkick Murphys
Have fun with them

I like Samhain, Glenn Danzig's project that was right between the punky Misfits, and the Metal-ish Danzig
