Not based on number of titles, but at their prime who played the game best. For example if Sampras at his very best was matched against Borg at his very best. Who would win? Rank them in order.

There is no clear answer to this question, there is only speculation.

I think that Sampras would have been able to dominate anyone in history, except Federer. I think they would have had a close rivalry, in Sampras' favor on fast surfaces and in Federer's favor on slow surfaces. At his best, Sampras played better tennis than anyone in history, but he wasn't always at his best.

If you could send Agassi back in time, I think he would have eaten up the serve and volleyers back then, including Laver. He was probably superior from the baseline all-around than anyone in history except for Federer. Borg/Agassi would have been the greatest rivalry ever.

Laver and McEnroe were both phenomenally talented and would have done well against anyone on fast surfaces.

My top 5 list of greatness is:

1. Sampras
2. Laver
3. Federer
4. Borg
5. Agassi

I expect that Federer will be #1 in a year or two when he surpasses Sampras' Grand Slam record.

Roger Federer
Rafael Nadal
Bjoin Borg
Pete Sampras
Andre Agassi

I'm thinking if Rafa was from the USA he would be in almost everyones list.

Rafa Nadal is barely 21 and has broken a few records already, including the 81 clay winning streak and the 2nd male since 1914 to win 3 consecutive RG. He is only 21!!!!!

This guy could be #1 after he finishes his career. I think Rafa would beat Bjoin Borg if both where at their prime. Rafa is pretty much the best in clay.

If they are at their primes, in order:
1. Federer - and I'm a huge Sampras fan
2. Sampras
3. Borg
4. Agassi
5. Laver

No offense to their greatness, but to include Andy Roddick and Arthur Ashe in the Top 5 is stretching it, and America-centric.
