Depending on where you live, I would also price out a "live out" nanny.

We are going that route and were surprised to learn the the cost will work out to be less than daycare when you factor in the drive time, cost of gas, fees for late pick-up, etc.

We are doing background checks, references, etc. Plus, we have complete control over exactly who will be taking care of our child. We also plan to do surprise drop-ins and have the house rigged with web cams so that we can always observe what's happening.

Not all daycares are bad but you HAVE TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Check them out, ask them every little question you can think of, also check with the state...they will have a record of any violation that the daycare has had. Drop your kiddos off for a trial run (a lot of daycares will let your drop your child off for a half a day for a certain price) and then show up unannounced. Also look for daycares with an open door policy and utilize it. Show up completely unexpectedly. When you get there watch the OTHER people around the front office...if they quickly run off or get on a phone get suspicious. I worked at a daycare that whenever a parent showed up unannounced, one of the front desk people would get on the intercom and call that childs classroom and quietly warn the teacher that the parent was there. Also you might let them go for a couple of weeks to a month before you actually return to work, that way if you decide it isn't working for you you won't have to give your notice and mess with quitting a new job.

Most daycares allow children as early as 6 weeks of age. You need to just research the daycares in your area. Ask around alot. Interview the director of the daycare and the workers that will be taking care of your newborn. I worked in a daycare for 4 years. My only concern with daycares is the # of children per adult ratio and the children are at higher risk of getting sick because they have lots of children. The baby will probably have a few more colds. Daycares are safe most of them have cameras in the rooms monitoring the workers. So if there were ever any question or concern you could ask to watch the tape.

I can imagine it's tough to put your new born baby in a daycare but some centers accept babies as early as six weeks. Look around and choose a center that is Accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Do your research to find the right place. Most of the good centers fill up quickly so inquire early. Good Luck!

Most daycares offer care for as young as 6 weeks. But make sure you do your research on the daycare. Drop in unannounced to see how things are. Pay attention to the interaction btn the staff and the children. There are a lot of things going on in daycares now days, just be careful. Try a home care or a person you know.

Every daycare is different, but most take infants. Some of them charge a little more due to demand of care. Check around carefully. Don't settle for anything less than the best. And know that there are usually 5 or 6 infants together, with one or two staff depending on the size of the establishment.
Make sure you "see" certificates etc. Don't just let them give you lip service.

Most day cares that accept babies will start at 6 weeks of age. I would pick one out now and get on a waiting list because most of them are full. It is totally safe for them to go to daycare, but I would do my homework and make sure the one you pick is right for you and your baby.

Yes, please check out the place really well, before you decide to put your baby there. You are going to worry, that is natural. Try to stay home with your baby as long as you can. I stayed home with my child until she was 5 years old. I know not everyone can do that. Good luck.

i think that age doesn't matter too much,
but you should really look into where you're kid would be going
my mom works with younger kids and she said that theres a lot of daycares where the kids arent treated as well as they should be
