Having mine cleaned out Wednesday. I am the only one who lives here so was wondering how many years before I have it done again.

A typical single family home will have a septic system with two tanks holding 500 gallons of water each. The tanks are always full of water and are designed to keep solid waste from draining into the dispersion field or sand mound.

Tanks should be emptied every three to five years, but this rule is not true for every family and every system. Some systems have very small tanks of 125 gallons or less. Families with multiple bathrooms and 5 or more people using the system will need more frequent cleanings.

Check with a local professional for details on your system. They might offer some basic advice for free.

A family of 5 should have theirs pumped every 5 years. 1 person, hmmmmm...., I would wait for 15-20 years.

How much do you eat? LOL LOL LOL

No really for one person, every 10-15 years.
how old is your tank?
if 40 years or more or if it leaks you may want to consider upgrading it to code for your area. This will save you a lot of head aches in the future.

IT COULD GO UP TO 15 YEARS IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW WELL IT DRAINS INTO THE DRAIN FILL. WHEN IT BACKS UP INTO THE HOUSE OR THE WATER STANDS IN YOUR YARD IS THE TIME TO DRAIN IT.
