well...if you figure each individual needs their own personal space of about 3 feet around...go from there.

What dance? If you're doing a full-blown Lindy Hop complete with air steps, even the larger floor pretty well needs to be cleared, for safety reasons. For standard ballroom, six couples can fit on the larger floor, if they're careful with their floorcraft, and the smaller floor will restrict even four couples considerably. For general social dancing, those numbers can be doubled and a bit more without too much restriction.

first question: packed in about 16-18. this would be dancing close. comfortably, 10.
second question: packed in about...uuhhh..about 9? comfortably, 6 or 7
