You also need a wireless network adapter for your laptop. You cant talk to a wireless router unless you have a wireless adapter on the computer.

You also need to setup the wireless router so it can log into your internet connection automatically. To do this follow the instructions that came with the router.

Well, since it seems like everyone is missing the obvious...What brand router is it? If it is a wireless router and you have a wireless card or adapter, or built in WiFi in your laptop you don't need a cable to the router. The only cable you would need is from your source (cable modem, etc.) to the router...That is the point of wireless.....

If you go to there website there will probably be a "quick start" guide to help you set it up.

Also, it should tell you whether you need a standard network cable or a "crossover" cable.

Make sure the connection is enabled and not disabled...

One more point, some laptops if not most of the newer ones have a switch to turn the wireless on and off. I would check that.

There are too many different brands of routers to give such a generic answer. When all else fails, read the instructions, then go to the website for a quick start guide...

If you have set the wireless on at the router, and set encryption, when you disconnect the cable you need to use your laptop's wireless utility to search for your network, set matching encryption and connect. Without doing that you will not get a connection. Check that your wireless card is turned on at the laptop.

Plug the Lan cable(RJ45,it's your "Blue" cable) from modem to router then enable the wireless network on you router(Some need this), on your WIFI on your Laptop, and setup a wireless connection in Windows.
