How many states are united in the U.S.?

isn't there only 48 cause hawaii an alanska are not physicaly combinded with the rest of the U.S.

sort of. The country as a whole is 50 states, including hawaii and Alaska. Just because they are not part of the lower 48 that are all connected to each other does not make them any less of states.

The main 48 are commonly referred to as the contiguous united states.
