All art emphases the art...the perfection of the art form. We as artists are not as important as the art we produce. If you dress to distract - that is the only outcome of anything other than black. The same is true in the painting and design worlds.

It signifys that you "get it" and what separates us from those who just think they know whats going on.

Do you get it?

Good luck.

Black is very slimming, and slim dancers look more graceful than...unslim ones! Black is a traditional colour for leotards as well....
My personal opinion is that it is a very serious colour, as well as dancing being fun, it is also very serious! It isn't distracting as well...if there was a girl in my dance class that wore a multi-coloured leotard with little sparkly bits, I would be distracted by it!! Aaanndd....(last one!) People feel comfortable to wear a boring colour, not everyone is flamboyant enough to wear bright pink to a dance class!!

black leotards are just traditional dance wear. black is a slimming color and very simple, if your wearing simple clothing theres really nothing to distract you from totally focusing on your dancing.

black is a slimming color and makes dancers look skinny. it's traditional to wear black leotards and i guess people buy black hot pants/pants to wear over them?

Because black is slimming, and being thin is important for a dancer, even if it is slightly illusional.
