This is such a tricky question! I've been married for a *very* long time so I can't really make a judgement. However, I've noticed that when I am alone I'm not (usually) lonely.

The paradox is in the sense of single = isolation versus married/partnered = companion. Some people in a relationship are still isolated and lonely. I guess not many of us would like to be in that situation at all - let alone forever.

I seem to have made your straightforward question rather complicated - and still not come up with a concrete answer.

I am married and have been for almost 26 years. I have told my husband that if anything were to happen to him, I would be single for the rest of my life. I just wouldn't be able to do the dating thing again. I have a busy life raising two of my grandchildren and am very happy the ways things are. But if things were to change, I would rather adjust to life without my husband and not have to adjust to life with someone new.

Once I get single, I do plan on staying that way forever. Once burned, twice shy.

Yes, as I do not like the way society is. And it is a single world .

This is something I used to fear, but after a soul-draining divorce, I love being on my own and taking care of myself, and not having to worry about all the crap that comes with being in a relationship!! So, yes; you can!! You'll be a lot happier too!!

I could do that! No problems on that since I don't care to ever date again. Haven't dated for four years and don't plan on trying it anymore. Being with someone doesn't guarantee I'll be any happier, as time has proven.

I think I could. I have been for almost 10 years now and am pretty content but after my children are grown I may get a bit lonely.

Yes, I could...It's possible...I don't know what tomorrow will bring...Something could happen, and I'd be dead, and I would have been single forever!
