i've always thought he was faking. i do think he has alzeimer's but not an extreme case. he knows what he's doing and i believe he knew who both tony and janice were when they showed up. yeah he knew. he said something derogatory to her in italian. what is was i don't know but just the look in his eyes and on his face said it all.

Seemed like it to me but maybe just bad acting

I dont think he was supposed to be faking it. By that point all the drugs they were mellowing him out with might have helped make him out of it and unable to remember stuff

Yes, he is ornery, but with Alzheimer's Disease that really is the way it is. Their memory goes, and they only remember people from when they were very young. My grandfather had it, and he did not remember me until I talked with him for a long time.
