Hey all,

I'm organizing a "cultural station" on my ethnic culture (Hmong) for students from Ireland (ages 8-10) on July 12th and need fun ideas on what to do (especially ideas that don't require a budget 'cause the program I'm doing this through doesn't have anything beyond $20 for me--I'm assuming).

All ideas (educational, crafty-fun, and that will last for about 10 minutes) are welcomed!!

Thanks!

Can you teach a simple traditional song or dance n that amount of time? No budget at all required there. Can you get a coloring page of a Hmong in traditional clothing? Coloring that might be interesting. Google Images might be a good source to look for these. Do the Hmong wear any kind of jewelry that's easy to simulate? Wooden or plastic beads, and elastic or ribbon on which to string them don't cost much. Is there any traditional Hmong food that can be made from ingredients you can locally obtain without too much cost or difficulty?

Hope some of these ideas help!

I'm assuming by your statement that you are Hmong? How about setting up a tapestry you or someone else has made that depicts a story. Show them the steps taken and time spent with all the detail work. Have small pieces of the cloth used in these along with needle and thread and show them some of the stitches used. Then have them attempt to create their square. Just an "idea"...lol. Good luck.

If you have Microsoft Publisher on your computer or know someone who does, print the Origami (Japanese paper folding) projects available. I have made the airplanes and they DO fly! Also try making your own Mancala game out of colored stones and bowls. The rules are available here - http://members.chello.at/theodor.lauppert/games/mancala.htm or make it out of egg cartons here - http://www.ci.tacoma.wa.us/envirokids/Projects/mancalagame.htm Have a Great Time!
