Your doctor may prescribe some heavier painkillers for you to take. I was prescribed 600 mg of Ibuprofen, which is like taking 3 regular tablets. This is something you really need a doctor's approval for, since higher doses of painkillers are risky. The doctor may also ask you to consider birth control pills, which will make your cramps a LOT better! The doctor will most likely want to give you a pelvic exam, either that day or in another appointment. For more information, use the search bar above to search for "pelvic exam," since people ask the same questions about it several dozen times per day.

Other than that, your doctor will ask you how bad your cramps are, when you get them, and what kind of pain it is. Very bad cramps are not normal, and might indicate a medical issue like endometriosis.

A nurse practitioner can do most of what a doctor can do. They can't prescribe medication, but they can get the doctor to do it. I have had a pelvic exam given by a nurse practitioner.

Your doctor is probably going to perform a pelvic exam which will show that there's no overt physical problem causing your cramps.

He will probably take a pap smear, a small scraping from your cervix, to send to the lab. He will feel the placement of your internal organs, specifically the uterus, and note its size.

After that, it'll be about what might help your cramps. Lots of things work for some females and not others.

Minimize salt in the days before your period, and you minimize bloating. Make sure you eat well in those days, so that constipation is not a contributing factor to your cramps. Consider reaching orgasm by any means, since the contractions of the uterus help expel shed uterine lining. Apply a heating pad or thermal heat patch to your belly or lower back. Take Aleve or Midol rather than Tylenol or Motrin. He may even suggest birth control pills, not because you're sexually active but because periods are lighter when you're on the pill.

It's not a big deal, and every woman who takes proper care of herself gets these exams.

Hope your next period is a breeze!

You are not missing out on having a period, but if you feel that you need more information then try seeing a specialist. There is medication that you can be put on for a short period of time that will help you have a period. It is said that you need to have a period around three times a year and that it helps with reproduction, however, I know someone who did not have her periods either and got pregnant and after having the baby she began to have periods. Someone stated that not having periods could be a sign of disease or something. Your doctor is the best person to let you know this because yes it could be a sign of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and females often don't have periods when they are very athletic. Hope this helps and good luck to you.

My suggestin to you would be to take some midal and do not drink alot of cold drinks because the cold as attendacy to clog the blood up and the heat from a hot water bottle helps some, it could be you might have a condition call endromdioss this could be very painful I have experience this it would be something to talk to your doctor about, it might not be anything to worry about but for you to go to the doctor for cramps.

... have you never been to an OBGYN before? Tell them that and ask them to explain everything and go slow. You might have a pelvic exam OR you might just be talking with the doctor!

You might be asked to give a urine sample (in a private little bathroom, with wiping with a towelette before.); find out, and if so don't pee yourself out before you get to the doctors. There might be blood work; that doesn't hurt if done right (and beleive me, I say that as a scared-y cat myself). If they are doing either urine or blood tests (both of which are routine; don't worry), they might want you to either have had a normal meal within 3 hours OR have not eaten; so call them in advance and find out.

You are getting your problem treated; make sure you ask any question you have, learning is VERY important and it helps you relax.

1 week before u have your period, do some yoga or stretching. If it still hurts very bad, take Midol, it works pretty good. or get an empty water bottle, fill it with hot water and put it on your abdominal, it should numb it a little. or you can try those self heating patches people use for their backache. Before you have your period, take 20mins bath regularly, to relax your body, but once you have ur period, don't take bath, only shower. good luck.

My wife says that to deal with your menstrual cramps you should masturbate alot with a fairly thick dildo (2-3 inch diameter), and have lots of sex. It always helps her
