If you read the instructions that came with it you will probably find that it means the battery is low.

Check the batteries!

Turning off the power wouldn't affect a purely battery-operated unit (Unless it was a coincedence that the batery died at that time). Some houses have smoke alarms that run off the building wiring with a battery backup. I suspect that the power to the unit never got restored or there is some reset procedure that has to be followed when power is restored to unit. Is It possible that the power curcuit for the alarms cannot have any other thing running off of it or it causes problems? I hope this is of help to you before you smash the thing.

Smoke alarm wire should be currently connect to the supply , It means main hot wire and should not be any electrical feature install before .Also check battery, put new battery see will stop beeping or not.

replace the battery, that peep is a warning that your battery is going dead
