Yes they should be. My school blocks websites. They pose as a threat to children, endangering not only their own welfare, but by releasing certain things and corrupting the child potentially endangering the welfare of a community. And child pornography is illegal, but can be accessed on the web. It's for the safety and welfare of the children. Trust me, I'm sure Johnny can write his report with what he's got accessible, which is plenty.

Definitely. Any website the school blocks is done for a reason. Usually if it is related to a school subject, the teacher or instructor will allow access to this website only. Anything other then needed websites are not school material and should not be entered into on school time anyhow.

If schools didn't block websites, students would be spending their entire school day on MySpace and perhaps also Yahoo! Answers

It stands to reason that there are things that should not be allowed to be viewed by minors and that serve no intellectual or educational purposes.
I whole heartedly agree that it is the responsibility of any educational organization or federally funded institutional to put in place blocks or filters to protect minors from harmful content.
There are sufficient "educational opportunities" on non filtered sites that should be more than sufficient for any student needs.

One of the reasons why many of those websites are blocked is because those websites are full of spy ware and viruses and the schools have limited funding to keep their computer systems clean.

Yes, they should block access to objectionable content, and to content that has no business in a classroom environment, like myspace and yahoo! answers.

In my opinion, yes. The school gives education, and when surfing the net the school makes sure that students use it for studying purposes and nothing else.
