I used to like Roth the best, but 5150 has grown on me, and I love that work of Hagar's

Cherone is okay...at least as good as his work in Extreme

I'll give Roth his due, but I have to proudly declare that I am a bigger Van Hagar fan. I think he's a way better vocalist, and the songs seemed more driving and inspirational.

And "Right Now" is one of the best music videos ever made. For real.

Gary Cherone...well, I won't go there.

Van Halen with Sammy Hagar on vocals...Of course Van Halen became famous earlier with David Lee Roth and i love him too but when album 5150 came out they changed to a better level...The music is far more sophisticated and melodic than ever before with just as much guts and bluesiness. The backing instrumental sound is more modern, textured and colorful than before.Eddie's "brown sound" guitar tone in Hagar era is smoother, creamier and somewhat more processed than on previous records.Eddie Van Halen is my god. When i hear his guitar i'm flying...Even if the singer is Gary Cherone (i love his performance on ''Once'').I just want to "hear" the band alive again...I am from Greece and i cannot see them...Anyway...At least i hear them...

Sammy; Cherone was a weak compromise replacement and Diamond Dave was the last of the glam rocker showmen. Sammy was just about the Rock and Roll.

There is only ONE Van Halen and its DLR. Cherone should check back in with Extreme, and Haggar? Dont make me laugh your a front man and claim "there's only one way to rock?" Long live Diamond Dave!!!!!!

Easy question!! David Lee Roth!! When I think of Van Halen and the sound I think of David Lee Roth, loved his voice and he was great on stage

I was a die hard fan until I saw them on stage in LA in 1981 and all they did was drink and get high and could not perform well at all. I was disappointed and felt I could have stayed home and watched my friends do that for free. I paid a lot, drove over 3 hours, and watched idiots waste my time and money. So. There you are. O^O

Iv'e seen them on Fair Warning,Diver Down,1984(3x's) & 5150(Monsters of Rock). They are truly a party band, drugs, sex &rock n' roll. But DLR is the performer. He was what rock n' roll was about, living large to it's fullest.

I have to go with Roth. He had the swagger. Haggar was good and they were definitely more commercially successful but as far as faves go, DLR.
