A dear friend of mine is just 18 years old. She feel she was born in the wrong body (wishes she was born male). I've been trying to get information for her but been finding it hard to get any. What does testosterone do and does it make you grow taller?(she pretty short bless her). Also after gender realignment surgery could she have full penetrating sex with a female?

Excessive Testosterone will give a female male gender features. It will increase facial hair and muscle bulk, reduce breast size (but not eliminate them), but if given in high unregulated doses will also cause mood swings and rages, which will be unpleasant to live with and could be dangerous to her/himself and others. Far better to have medically supervised treatment.
It may increase bone density, but will not increase the height, as bone growth plates determine the adult height, and she/he has done most of the growing already.
There may be a lower age limit, (mostly 21 years old) before they will even look at gender reassignment.
To have gender reassignment surgery, to be made to appear male, the person is usually required to live as the selected gender for up to two years, with no reverting, while talking to physciatrists, doctors and surgeons, so that they can fully understand the implications of the steps that they are about to undertake. During this time they will receive hormone treatment, to start to develop those tendencies associated with that sex.
For Female to male trans-gender operation is major surgery and involves several operations. It involves a radical mascetomy (removal of both breasts). The uterus, ovaries, cervix and the inner vaginal lining are removed, inverted, and used to create the skin and flesh of the penis, and testes. The urethra would be extended to join the end of the new penis.
The penis however is not functional without implanted medical devises, similar to which an impotent male would use to get and maintain an erection. Of course there would be no ejaculation, or male type orgasm, as there is no actual sex organs there. Some transsexuals choose to forgo the implant, rendering them impotent (unable to get an erection), happy enough to have a body that matches their gender association.
To go Trans-gender is a huge decision, literally life changing, which is why is is not a decision to be rushed, and cannot be done on a whim. It is a long process, involving medical procedures, constant hormone doses, life style changes and mental stress. Tell your friend to get any and all help she needs, and tell her she will need plenty of support to get her through. Ask her if she is willing to go to, or visit on line, some trans-gender support groups.

I thought about researching your questions - but you have LOTS of reading ahead of you anyway; quick answers won't help you as much as encouragement to start it.

Nothing about this is gonna be quick, and it shouldn't be.
