I guess the movie is in the late 90s. It's about a girl who lost her mom in a car accident in US and then she moved to live with her dad in Canada, a remote beautiful place. Then, there was a construction project that they destroyed the forest around them

The movie is "Fly away home", and it was a pretty good movie. The girl in the movie was Anna Paquin, who has since had quite a bit of success in the movies.
