I have something that keeps creeping up on my PC. I have no idea what it is or how I am coming in contact with it. Whatever it is, it completely slows my computer down. I can't even play a CD without it sounding glitchy. The only way I know to get rid of this is to keep reformatting my computer and that is getting very old. I have Norton anti virius, but whatever this is, it bypasses my norton and eats my computer alive. Please help.

If you are having to format very often and aren't accidentally visiting bad sites that will easily install software without you even knowing, it actually sounds like a hardware issue. With out actually sitting in front of your computer it sounds like maybe the sound card and or drivers for it are faulty. The reason the drivers may be faulty could be due to a bad hard disk. If a hard disk goes bad it will write incorrect data and cause plenty of slowdowns, freez-ups, and crashes. The same goes for faulty memory. The easiest thing to do would be to install a fresh copy of your Operating System, and be gentle on it for a week or so, just check your email at worst and baby it, dont browse any sites or install any software other than the necessities, that way it will tell you if it is actually a virus/spyware/malware. If your computer does start doing the same again, I would recommend having someone troubleshoot and replace the faulty component(s).

Hope this helps a little, I know computers can be really frustrating when they dont work right, its a nightmare, I take care of 150 of them every day.

Take Care,
Patrick

Sounds an awful lot like the mydoom virus that swept the world a few summers ago. Search for mydoom removal tools on google and that will most likely get it. It could also be the sasser virus. One thing you can do is when your computer is acting slow, load up the task manager by holding ctrl-alt-del and select the processes tab. Look in the list for anything strange. If you are unsure what a certain process is, just google it. When you find one that shouldnt be there, just end it. This will only stop the process from running and thereby speed up your computer. However, you still may have to find the actual program or .dll file that is causing the problem or when you reboot, it will happen again. Sometimes this is easier said than done. The best advice I have is keep at it. All viruses can be beat but it takes time. Try downloading lavasoft's ad-aware and microsoft's windows defender. One of those 2 programs ought to be able to help you more than norton antivirus which doesnt do so well with spyware. Good luck.

I think that this might be a spyware issue. Download and run ad aware se. Delete all spyware found, then reboot.

honestly? that's a description of literally every virus that's ever been written. the only way to narrow it down is by giving us it's name.
