The relationship was in the toilet BEFORE he found someone new to take my place.
Looooooooooooong, long, before.

Losing his friendship will haunt me forever,
because I thought he was my best friend...for 22 years....along with all the unresolved questions, hurt and angers.

HE will have to live with knowing that I KNOW what he did,
and the order in which he did it.

I would have to say that the primary relationship ending hurt the most. I had lied to and hurt the woman that I loved most in my life. I now know that it was because of lack of communication. As for the relationship born out of infidelity.... well I don't feel as bad because she new I was married and still decided to be with me, I don't blame her for MY mistake but you asked what hurt more and this is my answer and reasoning for it.
Good luck with your paper!

I was young and stupid when I got married, and I was even more stupid when I cheated. I'd have to say that both events were equally hurtful, but I did it to myself.
