Boston, circa 1776, yes.

Boston, today, no.

Boston, today, if there were a popular revolution to overthrow the liberal, tax-happy, gun-banning bastards? Absolutely!

It's such a pity that the State where Americans first stood up to unjust taxes, and fought to prevent the government from confiscating their guns, has so willingly adopted the tyranny it once defeated.

Yes, I already DO live in Boston. I love it here. It's one of the friendliest major cities I've been to (I grew up in Washington DC which is not especially friendly, and has a comparable cost of living to here). Boston has excellent restaurants and overall it's a great city.

Also - I work as a local government consultant. Massachusetts has about an average tax burden compared to most states. It's obviously higher than Alaska or Alabama (the two states with the lowest tax burden), but it's not as high as New York or Maine or many other states. Our state income and sales taxes are about average or even lower than most states and our property tax rates are slightly higher. So for overall tax burden, Massachusetts ranks somewhere in the middle of the states. No sales tax on clothing! And I just saw gas prices at $2.98 a gallon

I just left Boston after 7 years to move to Florida. Boston is great from a cultural standpoint, but the winters seem to be getting longer and longer! It is great because there is the educational enrichment and influence of the big universities esp. Harvard and MIT, but there is also a such a heavy and molopolizing undergrad population during the school year which can sometimes seem overwhelming to the city life. One of the major issues I had with Boston was that it is very expensive and the people there are very unwelcoming and very competitive. However, there is plenty to do and being near New Hampshire, Maine and The Berkshires is appealing to those who enjoy camping, skiing, and other outdoor activities. Boston just wasn't my cup of tea but I can understand why other would like it. I am much happier in where I am now but not every city is for everyone!

Boston is an expensive place to live, but I fell in love with in during visits when I was young. There is so much to see and do....the city is a living museum and a real treasure. You can go anywhere you want on public transit, so you don't need to have a car.

I do live in Boston. And I love it :)

People who complain about the politics, try living in DC. I lived there for 4 years and Boston is nothing compared to the political crap of DC. So, stop bitchin' lol

I am originally from NJ, and Boston is much cheaper than Jersey(and i lived in the suburbs, near the shore) and NYC. So, wahoo!!!!!

Plus, Cape Cod is just a hop, skip and a jump away.and it is GORGEOUS. Especially if you spend the extra time going out to the outer Cape. You can take the ferry from the port in Boston to the end of the Cape. It's probably about $70 round trip, but my gosh, is it worth it :)

I am a tennessean who hates big cities, but there are 2 that I'd live in/near. One of them is Boston. I'm living in rural MA right now (near Sturbridge) and my wife works in Cambridge. There's a real possibility that we'd live in Boston eventually, and I might be OK with it. Northerners tend to bug me, but the city is neat and I've always had a good time when I go up there.

Big cities are more expensive period. THis isn't unique to Boston, so don't let that kill it for you. It's common, I think.

I used to live in Boston, I enjoyed the city and all the things to do, but it's expensive, pushy and I hate the politics.

I wouldn't. I have an image of boston being expensive and the people being very snobby. This is from people i know and have delt with in the past, i've never been there personally.

I also hate the red sox and patriots with a passion. Bandwagon fans piss me off.
