Mansfield Reformatory in Mansfield Ohio.
Its also the prison that was used to film The Shawshank Redemption.
Check it out if you're ever in Ohio.

the whaley house is in san diego, girl up there.
here are some of my favorite NYC haunt spots...
Algonquin Hotel: a group of writers that met for lunch daily around WW1 are rumored to still meet for lunch ever now and then, people being pushed, things being thrown, conversations laughter, weird vibrations. the round table included dorothy parker, robert sherwood, franklin pierce, kaufman and woollcott etc etc.
Beth Israel Hospital: Served as both a prison and a mental ward before becomming a public hospital....it's over on first ave at 16th street
"the house of death" over on 14 west near fifth ave. 22 people have died in this house, including mark twain!
if you want more let me know....i got into the paranormal thing a while back and had a blast playing around in new york.
cheers!

If you ever have the chance of visiting the Custer Battlefield in Montana stop and talk to the Rangers that work there. I have heard there are so many strange goings on there that no Ranger will spend a night there. When it gets dark, the close up the gates and go home. Tombstone Arizona's Boot hill also has strange things that go bump in the night.

If you are ever down south, be sure to head through Adams, TN. Do a google on the Bell Witch. Good god, this is a scary story. I was telling what I knew about the story to some of my students up in CT (I am from TN, so i had "heard" stuff about the story) and they asked me to stop telling them.
I could go into some of the frightful details of this story, but definitely go look up the Bell Witch online. See what you can find >:) It will be worth the read even if you don't make it down there anytime.

Don't bother with the Amityville Horror house, i work in Amityville and they changed the windows on the house to make it seem more normal. Plus we all respect the new owners privacy. Definately try to make a trip out to Gettysburg. You had over 50,000 soldiers die over a course of only 3 days. There have been reports of full lines of soldiers meeting on the battlefields at night. There is also a spot where one soldier was buried alive underneath a pile of dead bodies and is still an angry poltergeist. check out this website for more info... http://www.gettysburgghosts.net/

You may want to do some research on some of the hotels there in NYC. I am certain you will be able to find one that way.
