right now its the redsox
they are first in the division by alot
but the yankees have been getting hot lately and now are in second place look for this surge to continue until the allstar break maybe they can shave off a couple of games and try to catch the red sox
the yanks are 8-2 in their last ten while boston is only 4-6
the yankees have a better offense starting with jeter and a-rod even if boston does have big poppy and manny. the yankees have scored 342 runs this year to bostons 323. the yanks are also hitting .281 while boston is hitting .274
but the sox have a better pitching staff with becket shilling and matsuzaka. the yankees have allowed 291 runs while boston has only allowed 243. the soxs overall ERA is 3.71 while the yankees is 4.58
the yankees are also only 5-7 vs the red sox this year so if thye want to close the gap in more on the six and make a run during the next series agaisnt them they will have to win it or try to get a sweep.

Currently the Red Sox. Just look at the AL East division standings.
Boston 40-22
NY Yankees 30-31

Well right now its the Red Sox but if you're talking history wise its the Yankees. They won more World Series than any other team in baseball. The most championships in all of pro sports. I think they have if I'm not mistaking won 26 championships or somewhere around that number

Even though the red sox have dominated baseball so far this season at 40-22, they have been slipping of late and the yankees have won 6 in a row! Finally, everything is coming together for the yankees with good pitching with wang, mussina, pettite, and clemens and guys like matsui, abreu, cano, and damon all hitting, along with a-rod, posada, and jeter who have been hitting all year. With the way the the yankees are playing right now, they may catch the red sox and then beat them in the playoffs, therefore being the better team.

Red Sox...always have been, always will be. Just kidding...before I get flamed. The BoSox record is much better at the moment and look to keep that going for a while.

although the yanks are catching fire right now and have closed the gap in the division by six games i believe Boston is still the better team. They have younger players can play everyday and young pitching (Beckett, Dice K and Papelbon), so i see boston commanding the Yankees for the next 10 years.

Red Sox. Just cause the Yanks beat up on MLB's worst baseball team, everyone thinks they are "catching fire". wait til they start playing teams with a winning record

a few weeks ago it would have been red sox, no doubt
but recently they have been struggling, and the yanks are catching up
if your talking about all-time, Yankees for sure
ps. michael p's answers is one of the worst ive ever seen
