FFXI is not for you then man. Majority of the missions, quests, and runs require more than 1 person. You are one person. (unless you have multiple computers) Take the Kirin fight for example you need 17 other people in your party to fight a battle that will take an average 30 minutes. Plus each item in the game is a registered element in the game therefore what you get is what you get. Plus there is an alternative to play online. Get a pre-paid visa from walgreens. And you are not playing to play the game you are subscribing to gamming community. Updates is implemented a lot here too. New things come out a lot. New items, new quests, new jobs. So yeah. The game also implements you to take on a role of what your job is. Are you a leader, follower, independant, you know. stuff like that. Patience is key too.

You COULD get an emulator. I have seen people do it with WoW, so I can assume you can do it with FFXI as well. The only problem with that is you will in the world by yourself and a lot of the missions and quests require multiple people to help with it. The idea of an MMO is that you work together with your fellow players to achieve a goal. The majority of the end game things will require 6-18+ people. Basically the game isn't fun if you are all alone. A lot of people I know have really lost all their friends by others moving on to other things in life and they are sitting day in and day out without who they used to play with. It is really saddening, but there is no fun in this game without your friends.

Sorry my friend, unfortunately, FFXI is completely based on online servers. Every step you make in the game since day one, it will save your progjress on the servers. That's why you can access your character from either Xbox 360, PS2, or PC. Also, when you start the game, it will log in to your account. There is no offline gaming at all with this game. Sorry

Is not possible to play it. Your character is saved on their computers.
