Once published (ie printed) it already contains an automatic copyright.
However, if you want to recoup damages (say from someone using your image without permission for commercial purposes), then you need to register your copyright with the US Copyright Office.

You can get in touch with copyright agency.
I wrote a song and placed it in an enveloupe, addressed it to myself, put a stamp on it and mailed it to myself.Once it was stamped by postoffice and sent back to me I put it in a safe place unopened. If I hear that song on the radio or any where else I have the proof I need that it is mine. And I can sue the person for plagery.I also have a copy of the song in case i want to sell it.
Im not sure, but you may be able to have it notarized.

Go to the Library of Congress website and find the copyright rules. Probably, you have to download a form, fill it out, Send a $10 check to them along with a copy of the photo.
