Never approach a raccoon, especially if it looks sick!

If you have found an injured or orphaned raccoon, contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator immediately. You can find one here: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.htm

Not all rehabilitators will take raccoons, especially if there has been a recent outbreak of rabies in the area. Raccoons and skunks are two of the prime carriers of rabies. Because of the danger of catching rabies, you should never touch a raccoon if you find it in the wild. And if you see a raccoon that is acting sick, call animal control. Do not attempt to approach it.

More info: "RACCOON DISEASES: They are a common carrier of rabies, a potentially fatal disease. They also carry canine distemper, which can kill your dog. Their feces may contain raccoon roundworm, the spores of which humans can breath in and become seriously infected by."

There should be a DNR Department of Natural Resources in her county. Call them and they will probably take it. Your freind needs to call a vet that works with wildlife they may help her or take it. Try contacting your County Clerks Office they might know how to reach the DNR. A local Animal Shelter is good place to try too. PLEASE BE CAREFUL. Racoon feces can have parasites that are very harmful especially to children. Make sure that she washes her hands and does not accidently ingest any feces. Keep the feces away from all other animals so not to spread the parasite. Don't be afraid to take care of the racoon because of it. I have raised many racoons and the feces is not a really big deal exept to small children and only if they eat the feces. To be safer wash your hands frequently. They are easy to raise but must be released into the wild when they are old enough. Racoons don't make good pets when they reach adulthood.

you need to call the wild game controller.
If it is sick it can pass some things to humans.
they are also high risk of carrying rabies.
the best is just leave it alone.
you could try to call teh vets and see if tehy can give you numbers tocall. If worse comes to worse call teh police yes they may come and kill it but with raccoons it's better then them biting someone and causing rabies, etc.

Call your local division of wildlife and someone should come out to look at it. Or take it to a local 24 hour vet if there is one.
But your Div.Of Wildlife should be located easily in the phone book.

You don't need a professional. You need animal control. If it's sick it could spread. You need to take it somewhere where it can get better and unless you or your friend are vets than I reccomend that you give it to someone who knows how to deal with animals like this.

I have raised one be four that we found in a pipe, you go to the pet shop get a bottle and puppy formula. Then feed it with a blanket wrapped around its claws as they are very sharp. I used a blanket and elbow length work cloves or oven mitts

if you go to the pet store and get an bottle to feed unweaned dogs, you can use that. you can also bottle feed it the puppy replacement milk. be careful they do bite, so wear thick welding gloves! also after it gets bigger you are best to release it, but you may want to get it fixed first.

if your friend is unable to properly care for it you can bring it to your local animal shelter where they will most likely put it to sleep... but I recommend trying to find some type of wildlife rehabilitate. best of luck!
