It is not a stupid question. Formal logic was developed by the Ancient Greeks. It wasn't discovered or invented but as each step was worked out, it developed. Its purpose was to give truth to a discussion.

Logic is something within an individual. When an individual is logical they reason things or ideas out in accordance with their principles. As each person has a different set of principles, each person thinks differently. Therefore, it could not be invented so, I guess up could say it was discovered by
men.
This question is not stupid. It shows an inquisitive and intelligent mind.

Formal logic was developed on two different fronts. While the Ancient Greeks worked with to a small degree, it was Aristotle who taught and wrote about for the first time at his school.
At pretty much the same time, Buddha developed a form of logic that was very much inline with what Aristotle did. It has been said that Aristotle was influenced much by the work of Buddha in the realm of logic.

It is not a stupid question. I would recommend that you give renewed consideration to the philosophy of Plato on this one.
