Group B Strep is a normally harmless virus that can live in you. GBS can be harmful to a baby (making them VERY ill). They would be able to get the virus as they pass through the birth canal. That is why you were treated with an antibiotic. The antibiotics keep the baby from getting the virus. Your boyfriend does not need to be tested because the only time that there is a fear of the baby getting it is during delivery. I tested positive and had the IV antibiotics with both of my children and they are now healthy at ages 9 and 3. Don't be afraid to ask your doctor questions...trust me they've heard it all before. Rest easy.

GBS is a natural, totally normal bacteria that as many as 1 in 2 women have, it lives in your vagina (sounds silly, but it does). GBS is not something your boyfriend should be concerned about, but the reason you need to be treated for GBS when you are pregnant is that it can be spread to your baby when your baby passes through your vagina during birth. It is linked with causing meningitis and other illnesses in infants postpartum. Therefore, just to make sure that your baby is as risk-free as possible, they want to cure it in time.
GBS used to not be understood, actually, many years ago doctors would even isolate and quarantine women who were giving birth and had GBS, but now that research has explained what GBS is and, more important, now that it can be treated, GBS is no longer feared or a threat.
I also had to be treated for it when I was giving birth. They actually had to put antibiotic in my IV as I was in labor! Everything was fine though. Don't even stress about it, as long as you no longer have it, it's fine.

Group B strep is a benign strep virus that over 30% of the poulation carries. Its not an STD, and you did not do anyhting to cause it. Group B can be fatal to newborns, so they give birth moms who test positive anti-boitics to keep the baby safe. Jest remeber it for the next time you have a baby so you can be forwarned. Good luck

No its nothing to worry about. If you were not pregnant then it wouldn't even be a concern.
