There was a time that Coke looked down on Pepsi, but they are just strong business rivals, especially since they are within 1% of business sales of each other

Coke and Pepsi are what is called an oligopoly. Like a monopoly, but a few dominant companies rather than just one. No other companies in the business are serious competitors. One response mentioned 7-Up. Pepsi sells Sierra Mist. 7-Up and Dr. Pepper are not owned by either, but are distributed by Pepsi or Coke in various markets. For instance, in some markets Dr. Pepper is sold along side Coke products. In others, it is sold as a Pepsi product. In those markets, Coke sells Mr. Pib as an alternative.
The Pepsi challenge in the 1980's started the "Cola Wars". Coke panicked and created "New Coke" to combat Pepsi. It was a huge disaster. Prior to the cola wars, Coke was king; Pepsi played second fiddle, and everyone else was a joke. Now, Pepsi has grown to a closer rival although still second.
They clearly compete against each other, but having another significant player in the market would be helpful. Oligopolies tend to get complacent since there isn't much competition to worry about. They copy each others products and pricing strategies...then count the cash as it rolls in. Examples of this are the "big 3" automakers prior to Toyota and Honda. Budweiser and Miller also control the beer market.
Oh...I like Coke...but not the sugar...Coke Zero thank you.

Unfortunately Yes Pepsi and Coke are deadly rivals , infact we can all learn from this bit of history, care to indulge?
There was once a pharmacist who had a soda fountain in his store, he sold more Coke than anyone , I mean anyone, Coke had a sted fast hard rule all vendors pay a dime a glass for the syrup to make coke,, this pharmacist pleaded with Coke to lessen his fee since after all he was the best and most loyal user of the Coke syrup, COKE SAID NO WAY , NO WAY, DIE!, the pharmacist was so hurt and angered by this lack of reciprical loyalty, he took all the COKE fountains out of his store, being a pharmacist he began learning how to make his own syrup, after many attempts he invented what would become known as PEPSI, from that moment, instead of COKE having a loyal supporter who would have lifted them to a stature hard to equal, they made an enemy of a friend, now that former friend is their greatest rival,,
how many people have we turned into enemies simply by not seeing things from their point of view?
I hope this helps you in your question, oh I know heres the answer to the next logical question you might ask, I AM A COKE MAN MYSELF :)
why Because, ITS THE REAL THING :)

Yes they are rivals. We used to own many grocery stores and found that coke by far is more prefered. they are not close in sales to each other once you get outside of the US. I wish coke never changed there original formula classic coke is not the same. I will say this that coke is so much larger then pepsi that there is no comparison. Pepsi likes to think there is but there is not.

I can't say whether or not they "hate" each other as the companies aren't really beings of their own, but rather the products of many different people. However, they are definitely rivals. Coca-Cola has always been ahead, as statistics show, probably because it came out first. Personally, though, I prefer Pepsi, just like you. Their Diet drinks have much more flavor.

Yes they are. Two major companies that have all the same products under different names.
Pepsi and Coke.
7UP and Sprite
etc....
I like coke better. Its the original and tastes a hell of a lot better.
Coke is also more internationally recognized that Pepsi. Its mostly the US that prefers Pepsi.

Yes, they are fiercely competitive against each other. i worked as a supplier to both companies, and the respective people took it very seriously. The Coke people were much more conservative, and handled the competition differently, they were both very good to work with. I like the taste of Pepsi much more than Coke.

Oh, I really hope that is true. I'm a Coke man myself but I love the idea of the great corporate giant being kicked in the family-jewels....
