Being from around there I can say that it's my observation that the Cubs play in yuppie-ville and the White Sox play on the south side where the population is blue collar and darker in other ways. The media are mostly less dark as well, so of course the Cubs are more lovable, while the White Sox are, well, just not elegant enough.
Even so, the Cubs are the worst franchise of the last 99 years with the fans to go with it. Go figure.

Because no one really cares about the Sox. (By the way, "Scrubs"? That's genius. I'm proud of you for coming up with that...) The Sox have a few thousand fans that every once in awhile decide to crawl out from under their rocks, head down to US Cellular Field, hop out on the field and beat up the old man who's coaching first base for the other team. Cubs fans, on the other hand, have a historic landmark of a field to attend with 40,000+ other loyal Cubs fans, then head out to Wrigleyville, a place with a great atmosphere to talk about how much the Sox (and you know, Cards, Brewers, pretty much every other team) suck.
...by the way the Cubs are also up 2-1 in the season series this year, all you Sox "fans." Go Cubs go!

We need to put this to rest once and for all. There is no way the Minor League Scrubs are more popular than the Sox. The Scrubs have always been a pathetic bunch of little girls playing at a pathetic excuse for a minor league stadium. Scrub fans don't love the Scrubs. They just love getting drunk in the bleachers and showing the whole country what morons they are.
The national media loves losers so that's why they only talk abut the Scrubs. They're like Paris Hilton: no talent just pathetic. They are a train wreck waiting to happen each season.

Fans of the Windy City just have good taste. Except of course for the White Sox fans, who don't even exist this year because the Sox aren't winning.

WGN's relentless Cubs programming in the 1980s and '90s. That, and many day games provide plenty of excuses to play hooky from work or school.

Me personally, I thinks it's all about the field. I hate the Cubs (I'm an ASTROS fan), but who doesn't love Wrigley. Beautiful stadium with a lot of history.
