The application for renting this house asks if I've commited any crimes. I have a 4 year old DUI and some misdemeanors from a different state...how much should I disclose?

Criminal and credit records if you agree to the background check. They will attach the background check to the cost of your lease too, so you need to read the fine print. It is all there if the lease is legal.

I'm a landlord and I always get the credit report only. I expect renters to have average credit, so a few lates don't bother me.

If the person looks shady, or makes me suspicious, I can do a criminal search, and I will. I personally, would consider a DUI or drug misdemenors a a sign of irresponsibility that would translate to paying the rent. I would throw that person out if I had other choices.

Depends on the background check. Most landlords just want to see if you've had any bankruptcies, evictions or repossessions. Those are the deal breakers as far as rental agreements go. Your DUI and unnamed misdemeanors shouldn't be too much of an issue. Background checks are really expensive. Seriously, some landlords and employers consider asking the question the background check.

I would put it all down. Unless the crimes can directly affect the landlord then I wouldn't worry about it. Now, if you have a record for constantly attacking previous landlords.. that might hurt but a DUI shouldnt.

We can find out on your credit report if you have been in jail or committed any crimes as well as your credit information.
That question is now a standard on all rental applications.

You should disclose everything, they are allowed to check into anything you put on the form so lying will just lead to you definately losing the house
