I know it just about every girls dream to be a model. when i was 13, i went to a modeling school (Barbizon) and went to a modeling/acting competition in NY. I decided to not work as a model/actress because i felt too young. I wanted my chance to be a kid. so i held it off. now i am 16, and i feel ready for a job. i dont want to go with an agency, bc they didnt seem to help at all and they were..well, jerks. i just want to get local jobs (in or near Ohio), but i dont know how to get started! my dad's friend does modeling on the side, so she agreed to help me by sending some pics and my resume around, but i feel that's at the bottom of her "to do" list. Do u have any ideals on what i can do? i tried looking up jobs on the internet, but everything is for 18+ or in LA. I dont wanna be famous, i just wanna do what i love.

First of NewYork gal is terribly wrong...there are cities all over the country who take teen and child models..You do not have to move to new york. Im a 14 yr old model in tx and get plenty of work w/o an agent even...check out www.howtomodel.com It has lots of great info to help you get started.

Instead of getting your dad's friend to send out the resumes, ask her for her contacts and if you can use her as a reference. Be proactive and do the footwork yourself after finding out as much as you can from her. You may well end up working with an agency since that's one of the best way to find jobs, but remember there's a big difference between agencies that make you pay a fee and angencies that take a cut of commissions.

You might also go to local malls, etc. Some large department stores will have in-store models. Also talk to local independantly-owned businesses or local colleges about doing advertising work. Try to find local ad agencies and see if they are hiring any models. Also, local photographers or photography schools might be able to get you gigs. Most art schools hire models for art classes to draw, a good way to start making contacts and get used to different situations!

You and your mom should call, or go to the stores in your city and ask for the Fashion Coordinator.

Ask the Fashion Coordinator for names of modeling agencies that may have a need for your type.

Stores:
Neiman-Marcus, Macy's, Bloomingdales, Lord & Taylor, Saks 5th Avenue, Talbots, and other high-end stores.

New York City, is the only city where agencies take girls your age for modeling. Unless you can talk your mom into moving to NYC, you have to wait until you are older.

Barbizo has a service called the Placement Service. All you have to do is call the number and ask them to send you a packet of info. once you do this they will call you when local jobs that fit your description are open.
good luck :]
