I don't think everybody is self-righteous. I now some who's self esteem is so low they can't see themselves as being right much less righteous.
Some of the most righteous people I have known are very self effacing and accepting of other peoples views and opinions even if they are diametrically opposed to their own.
Self-righteousness for the most part is a characteristic of sophomoric philosophers who haven't discovered there own sense of wonder in the complex and contradictory nature of the universe and mankind.
