i live in s. texas so there is no comparison but i'd rather just have fans and open the windows at nite.

From Phoenix where even at night it is miserably hot right now and fans do nothing but move around hot air. AC, definitely but since it is dry most of the time a swamp cooler would do almost as well.

I used to live in Corpus Christi. You're right: there is NO comparison. Air conditioning is a MUST!
Even though I now live in Kansas, I still experience sweltering (summer) heat. So, I prefer the air conditioner. But during the fall or early spring, there is nothing better than a fan blowing the cool night air in.

I think I would prefer air conditioning. Fans are cool but they don't seem to cool the air enough but at night open windows with a fan is fantastic. Get it FAN tastic!

Air conditioning as it cools the whole house down and fans only cool a little section of the house!

Both actually. I've lived in Texas, New Mexico, Washington State and California and I've not found any place where once in a while you need a/c. But I love the noise of a fan to put me to sleep. AHHH!

i keep the windows open and use fans until it gets to be over 90. then i'll turn on the air for about 5hrs. a day. i live in a brick house so it stays cool until about 5-6pm.

Fans except when it's very humid. I hate the sound of air conditioners and it always gets too cold no matter how low I put it. Fans incorporate some serene feeling during the summer that I like, some kind of nostalgia. Plus, I like the warmth.

Of course where i am, I open all the windows and doors during the night, and close them for the day. That does it fine.
