For a dumbbell workout using "light weight with high reps", what is considered light weight for a male adult just starting anew with a weight program? Twenty pounds? Or should I start lighter?

Because what is "light weight" is individual (based on many factors) I can try to help you figure it out without giving an actual weight amount.

When you pick up a particular weight and start a weight-lifting movement, you feel the heaviness yet you aren't struggling intensively with each repetition. A light weight will feel heavy after 12 repetitions. A heavy weight will feel really heavy on the first repetition. So, to estimate correctly, pick up a weight that you struggle with the weight of the dumbell around the 12th repetition of a set. That is a light weight.

if ur an adult id say 40 should be really light for u even if uve never worked out be4. but if ur in hprroble shape start out with 30's i doubt youll hhave trouble with anything lighter than 30as b/c im only 17 and i curl 75 for 1. and db press 85s-90 for 1. so u being an adult should be able to do more than me scientifically speaking of course lol
