Corn is just another supply the Government is using as a source. You are correct that most anything that will create methane gas could be used. Using corn is just a way to allow the farmers a guaranteed price on the crops they grow at market time.

I think you mean Ethanol.
Corn is a good source, but so is sugar cane. Grass is not.
Ethanol is clean burning, and it is a reusable resource, while oil is not. Although the world's oil resources will not be depleted in our lifetime, unless the price guaging stops soon, there will be no choice to but to look at alternatives.
Now whether or not ethanol is the alternative or whether the current direction cars are heading towards, i.e., hybrids, fuel cells and electric is still to be determined.

Farmers are traditional recipients of federal largese via a variety of programs. Ethanol production has been eyed as another way to support corn prices.
Even with gasoline flirting with 4 bucks a gallon, though, it's still more economically viable than ethanol.

The Government does not want you to know this. They want you to be scared that prices of groceries will go sky high and Americas farmlands will be ruined with genetically altered corn. People will starve to death. No tortillas in Mexico, will cause riots. There are many plants that can produce alternative fuels, ones that are better than corn.

Check out oxyhydrogen. It's a gas easily made from water which when it burns, it turns back to water. The problem is if researched, it may destroy an infrastructure which powers the economy of most of the world.
