I need to rename over one thousand picture files quickly is there a Macro under Office or photoshop? I am using XP Pro.

A.F.5 makes it easy to rename many files at the same time. Drag and drop your files from Microsoft® Windows® Explorer to the window of A.F.5, build new filenames and click Rename.

At times, I have gone to the extent of, going to command line prompt (cmd.exe) and using dir c:\folder\types-of-name.extensions /b >c:\temp.bat
...
And then using some good text-capable editor (in my case, WeBuilder) that can handle regular expressions to build a good bat file to rename the files...

How exactly do you need to rename the files? Your answer might be as simple as using the REN command in a command window (run CMD.EXE) . Using wildcards, you can do things like

ren foo*.jpg bar*.jpg

If your rename is more complex than this, please add details to your question.

changing a .EXE to something else could make it unusable. Any registry archives that look for the .EXE won't have the potential to discover it. yet once you nevertheless prefer to alter it open up a DOS window and pass to the area of the document and use the RENAME command.
