Yes they can! If you continue to think about a problem it could appear in your dreams and you can find a solution. You can try to induce creative dreams by setting up the intention before you go to sleep. Try to record your dreams every night because in this way you can remember them all and be able to use your dreams to work for you. What is even better is when you realize you are dream in the dream which is called Lucid Dreaming. Check out this book: Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen Laberge

Hello,
(ANS) YES! indeed dreaming can be an extremely valuable method towards problem solving.
**For example:-
It is said the either Krick or Watson, when doing their ground braking scientific research into the workings of DNA & RNA only solved the 3 dimensional puzzle that became the double helix structure through a dream. It was seen as a vision in a dream that the structure was a twisted double structure & how it intricately fitted together. So without that dream it may have taken many more years to solve that riddle.
**I've solved many difficult emotional or psychological problems via dreams or dream recall.
**YES! dreams are very powerful & useful for problem solving, not many people seem to have realized this?

The jury's out on this one , in my experience it can but im not sure whether is more like the positive thinking thing as in if your told you can work it out in your dreams you can....
A kind of auto suggestion perhaps but in my experience i was haunted by nightmares from a scenario from my past, daft as it sounds my mam told me to try to fight this person in my dreams a bit like freddy kruger in the 80's nightmare on elme street , i laughed but for 3 nights in a row the recurring nightmares happened and oddly i stood up to this person and killed him ( a bit psycho i know ) in my dreams but amazingly i had no more nightmares and the beginnings of over coming a life long fear , so although its not a mathmatical problem it was a problem solved and worked out in my dreams.
