My soil pipe has been moved as just had a new conservatory built. The top of the pipe is now just below a bedroom window, won't this cause bad smells to enter the room when window open.

no not at all as it is sealed you will just hear the water and stuff going down. Its Not the overflow pipe as this only lets water out in rare occasions and can run down the roof of your conny it sounds disgusting but its only water

Your a little unclear Ma'am,
If you are talking an open end of pipe sticking up, it's either a job not completed, a cleanout not cut down and capped, or a vent not properly extended and completed..
If you are talking about just seeing the top of pipe that has not be buried properly, you should be ok.
But again, if it's an open end of pipe, it does need to be addressed. Call the acting supervisor on it.
If it's a vent not completed, under UPC code, it's supposed to be a minimum of 3 ft above the window if it is within 10 ft of the window. Or whatever it takes to keep sewer gas from entering the bedroom.

If you have an open end on the soil pipe, you will get strong smells coming from it. You can by a cap for the pipe which has deodarising crystals built into it which you can fit on the top. the size you want is 400mm.

Yes, it is a vent pipe! It serves to remove the methane gas, that is created as the sewage breaks down. you will definitely get some smell, if you open the window. This pipe should either be relocated, or extended above the window. Good luck!

Legally the top of the soil pipe MUST be 1 metre above any opening window. Get it extended!

If you are talking about the pipe that normally goes out the roof, it is a vent. Sewer gas is in this pipe and is dangerous to humans. It also contains Methane gas which is explosive. Extend it up above the roofline.

Any Soil pipe must vent 3 foot above roof level.

I think you may be talking about an Over-flow pipe. It has a cap on it? It's a preventitive device that prevents sewage from backing up INTO your house. If a blockage should occur the sewage overflows OUTSIDE rather than inside!
