OK. Basically, I have an IBM Thinkpad laptop. It has had its problems but I've fixed most of those with updated drivers. Everything was working fine and all of a sudden my touch pad stopped working. I reinstalled the drivers and tried a few things and none of them seem to work. When I use an external mouse, it works.
Please help and thanks

Bad news. The thinkpad is notorious for this. The drivers aren't the issue, it's the hardware itself and it needs to be replaced. I would recommend against doing so as it is only going to break again and cost you more hastle and money in the long run than just buying a small USB or Bluetooth mouse.

I have a Thinkpad also and it did the same thing. Never could get it to work again. I just got a wireless mouse from MS and use that. It works fine and you can use it anywhere on almost any surface.

One problem, endemic to the trackpoint (according to IBM/Lenovo), is that, until the keyboard "warms up" (they call it) the pointer jumps erratically all over the screen in response to the trackball...I don't know if THAT's the problem you're having...that's what I had, and I pursued the question for quite awhile, to a sort of dead end.

Hello.... Start your laptop in safe mode, if the mouse pad is still not working from safe mode, if still no mouse pad the you will have to have it repaired, but if it works from safe mode then remove any drivers you installed for the pad....

That little pink dot replaced into what we used till now we had touchpads on laptops. positioned your finger on it, and prepare tension in any course - watch the place the mouse strikes. i think of Lenovo is between the few pc manufacturers to nonetheless contain it.
