Just pretend that chairs and tables are tumbling down the sky and hear the sound(thunder) that they make. Lightning do more good than bad you know.

Okay, generally it might rain for a few days but you will not need to restrict the use of your electricity. Don't let these fools scare you. They obviously have no apparent idea what they are talking about. Thunderstorms move, its not just going to sit there. You may have a chance for severe weather or even thunderstorms for a few days, but it will not be storming the entire time. And even so, there is no reason to limit electricity. Lightning is not attracted like that. It is attracted to a opposite electrical charges either on the ground or in the air. Also, here is a website where you can always view your probability of severe weather and has a radar that is always current. www.spc.noaa.gov
Just stay inside your home during a large lightning storm, stay away from windows...Maybe put on some relaxing music...

I know this probably doesn't help when you're freaked out by a storm but there really is very little to be afraid of. Lightning sometimes damages trees and buildings, it occasionally injures people but this is rare. There's much more chance of being injured by so many other things.
Personally I love lightning storms but can understand why some people would be scared with all that banging, crashing and flashing going on.
Try watching the storm (seriously) and turn it into something of a game by guessing where the next lightning will strike.

Don't be. Just don't go outside and stay indoors. Don't use too much electricity. The storm might stay for a few days as they said on the news. Here are some words of comfort said by Albus Dumbledore: Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times. If one only remembers to turn on the light.

Close your drapes so you can't see the lightning.
But .........
You can always tell how far away a storm is from you by seeing the lightning and then counting the seconds to when the thunder starts.
Each second inbetween lightning and thunder is approximately one mile.
I love watching lightning and counting.

I sympathize with you because I'm afraid of storms too. Stay away from the windows. Don't use water. Don't take a shower. Don't talk on the phone. Turn off and preferably unplug the tv. Have a snack and use battery operated appliances. Take care.

If it is really bad it will be on the news. If it starts to sound like a train is coming, you know, like rumbling/roaring move to an inner room and pull a matress over you.
