There are some possible reasons. The most common is to check and ensure your soundcard is the default device for sound input and output. Go to the Control Panel>Audio and sound devices and once the "Audio and sound devices properties" window is open, clic the Audio tab and select your soundcard in the scrolling lists, then clic Apply and OK.
Also, ensure the Wave and Main Volume level aren't muted or set to the minimal value in the Volume Control of your operating system. If there's no sound yet, upgrade the soundcard drivers by downloading them from the manufacturer website and follow the steps above in case nothing happens. Look for tech advise in case nothing works.
Good luck.

You probably need to get sound drivers installed on your new computer for your sound card. Try the website of the company that made your soundcard and I bet you can find the drivers there.

You need a sound driver, this can be downloaded online.. Find out what kind of computer you have Dell, HP , etc..
go to that website search sound drivers and download, I have fixed many sound problems this way....swap the sound cards back...Do not use a cannon to kill a mosquito! you started in the wrong place. After reading everybody else, it could be a number of those things, MUTED, misintalled sound card, NO drivers, bad wires on speakers. Just double check, I would lay 1000 to 1 that your driver isn't installed or up to date

1st. Make sure that you are not on MUTE
2nd.
If you have tried everything, reinstall your sound card drivers, if your sound card is attached to your Motherboard check the manufacturer website and get the latest drivers.
