ok.......i got one of those sea monkey kits nd my baby brother didnt know what they were so he was smahing the packet with the eggs in them (which couldnt be good) Then he ripped open the water conditioner nd it went everywhere! so i put a little drop of stress coat in the water instead. I put the eggs in 4 hrs. l8r nd nothing happened. now it is 26 hrs. later nd there is no life in my tank. I think my lil bro killed them when he smashed them. =( the eggs dissolved and ther is nothing but water in my tank. (By the way, when i put the eggs in i saw that ALOT of them were already dead nd out of their shells. So should i wait 4 some sort of miracle or should i just get new eggs?

Some of the eggs are probably all right because of the size and number that come in the packet. I've raised brine shrimp (what sea monkeys are), and it can take more than 26 hours to get them to hatch. I'd wait at least 48 hours before giving up on them (most of the eggs hatch in 36-48 hours).

Part of the hatching success is having the right amount of salt in their water. Was the packet with the salt and eggs opened when your brother smashed them? If so, and you lost a good bit of salt would be the only reason I'd say to get new eggs.

OK, sea monkeys are brine shrimps, the real name is "artemia", if you want to hatch them, then buy a vile of brine shrimp eggs, small box of aquarium salt, and you'll need a 1 gallon pickel jar. In the jar measure out 10 table spoon of aquarium salt, and 1 table spoon of brine shrimp eggs, and add some day old warm water with temperature 80-85 degrees. you will also need a pump to circulate to water. In 24-36 hours you'll see the baby artemia.

good luck

OK. What you have- regardless of what anyone told you- are Brine Shrimp. They are interesting little crustaceans but definately not "shrimp". Don't both waiting for a miracle. Many times the mail order kits are too old to begin with. Any good pet store will sell them in the fish section (they are raised for fish food). There will be
directions for making up the brine solution (use sea salt) and keeping them. Sometimes it takes 2-3 weeks for them to hatch. They are pretty tough; the eggs collected from the wild are taken from crystaline salt around salt pans (lakes) in blistering heat. Have fun! michael

The best idea would be to get new eggs because considering what has happened to them and what not then there is probabaly very few alive if any.
