Kumar Sangakkara is a great wicket keeper batsman in the Sri Lankan Team. He is a left handed batsman. He started as a batsman and learnt wicket keeping. Subsequently he became specialist wicket keeper for Sri Lanka.

His wicket keeping has improved to such an extent that he is now considered, by the LG ICC Test ratings, the best current wicket-keeping batsman. His skill is recognised worldwide to the extent that he was selected for the ICC World XI One Day team that competed against Australia in the Johnnie Walker Series in October 2005.

In July 2006, he scored his highest Test score of 287 against South Africa and shared in a record-breaking partnership of 624 with Mahela Jayawardene. This is a world record in both Test and first class cricket, and was the first case of a partnership of 600 or more in a first-class or Test match innings

Upul Tharanga is another promising player in the Sri Lankan Team. He is a very young left handed batsman and a wicket keeper too. He has been opening the innings for Sri Lanka along with Sanath Jayasuriya in One Day Matches.

Sangakarra is the backbone of the middle order batting in the sri lankan team and is a great wicketkeeper. Upul Tharanga is a very good rookie, one of the best starting rookies in the world and he might fill the gap when Jayasuriya leaves.
