if I plug the headphones into the output for the speakers, they start doing the popping sound also. So it seems to be something wrong with that jack. I have a realtek soundcard (i think) I only just got this computer a few days ago, what can I do to fix this problem? - I dont really want to take it back to the shop....

I dont turn the volume up loud at all - so I dont think it could be the amp maxing out...

no you misunderstood - I unplug the speakers, and then plug the headphones into the jack that the speakers WERE plugged in to. then they start popping too.

Repairing and/or replacing a bad jack on a sound card isn't worth the time and effort or money. Other things you can try: Lowering the volume level for the sound card. If the level is too high, the speakers may not be able to handle it and as a result, cause the sound to come out distorted. Clean the jacks for the speakers and headphones, this may solve the problem. If you tried these and you still have problems, then I recommend you replace your sound card.
